Abstract: 

The article examines the ideas about the social and legal future of humanity of the outstanding Russian jurist, world-famous sociologist P. A. Sorokin. The author analyses the historical laws of social and legal development formulated by Sorokin, the systems for assessing social and legal progress, and the relationship between the concepts of evolution and progress. The advantages and disadvantages of his theory are evaluated.
