Abstract:

The article focuses on the legal analysis of Russian sports federations’ regulations and mentions their role in the labour law sources system. The author highlights that the legal rules set out in sports federations’ regulations concern almost every labour law institution. She wants to know whether it is legitimate to establish additional penalties for athletes and coaches by Russian sports federations. Moreover, the author examines the legal nature of sports federations’ procedure rules and explains why they can’t be considered as typical internal regulations. She comes to the conclusion that Russian sports federations’ regulations play an important role in the employment legal relationships between athletes and couches and, therefore, such regulations should be regarded as labour law sources. However, as sports federations’ regulations are not mentioned in Article 5 of the Russian Federation Labour Code, they can be considered only as specific and unconventional labour law sources.
