Abstract:

The article examines the activities of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the field of human rights protection. It analyzes the regulatory and institutional foundations for the formation of relevant mechanisms within the OIC, including the provisions of the organization’s Charter and the 1990 Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam. Special attention is given to the specific features of the Islamic approach to socioeconomic rights, which is based on principles of social justice, collective responsibility and religious and moral values. The article also explores the role of the OIC’s Permanent Independent Commission on Human Rights. The article identifies key problems in the functioning of the system for protecting socio-economic rights within the framework of the OIC, including the declarative nature of the main documents and the lack of supranational control mechanisms. The article concludes that despite the existing limitations the OIC is developing its own model for protecting socio-economic human rights, which differs from the universal system of intergovernmental organizations.
