Abstract: 

The article analyzes the ideas of G. F. Shershenevich, which are important for the development of modern law and the doctrine of copyright. In particular, his views on the economic prerequisites of copyright consists in ensuring the material interests of the person by whose creative work the work is created. The study of social orientation of granting long-term protection to subjective copyrights was conducted.
