Abstract: 

This article analyzes modern approaches to the regulation of private military and security companies. The history of the appearance and activity of such formations are considered. The analysis of international acts in the field of international humanitarian law is carried out, a comparison is made of the status of members of private military and security companies with the status of combatants and mercenaries.
