The article is devoted to the interpretation of tradition in law, the substantiation of a structure of legal tradition analysis, and the correlation of notions of «tradition» and «continuity» in law, «tradition» and «borrowings» in law, «artificial» and «natural» in the evolution of law. The author examines the feasibility of treating modern law as a stage of a national legal tradition and limitations of its belonging to a western legal tradition.
