Abstract:

The article examines the role of the Russian Federation in the implementation of security cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The measures taken by the state to create legal and institutional mechanisms for ensuring security within the framework of the SCO are analyzed. The effectiveness of the created mechanisms is evaluated. The author emphasizes Russia’s national interest in developing cooperation to maintain peace and security in the Central Asian region, due to the instability in Afghanistan, bordering the three members of the SCO. Russia’s special role during its presidency of the Organization is noted, in connection with which security issues have reached a new level, which made it possible to talk about the huge potential of the Organization among the scientific community, including foreign colleagues. The problems and challenges arising in the SCO related to the contradiction of the national interests of the Organization’s member countries are revealed. Measures are proposed to resolve existing contradictions by coordinating interests among the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The importance of developing security cooperation within the Organization is noted. Conclusions are drawn about Russia’s role in the activities of the SCO and its effectiveness, taking into account existing challenges.
